Turn PowerPoint lecture slides into a quiz

Lecture decks sit in Moodle as PPTX. The bottleneck before any retrieval practice is retyping them into a flashcard site. As of October 2026, Knowt’s public blog still tells a PowerPoint→flashcards story; the quiz path from the same file gets less coverage in competitor blogs we checked.

You can convert slides by hand. ScienceIQ accepts the PPTX so you spend the evening answering, not copying titles.

What makes a slide-deck quiz usable

Good items come from:

  • One claim or definition per question
  • Numbers, conditions, and “do not confuse X with Y” pairs from the speaker notes or bold lines
  • Distractors that match nearby slides (adjacent concepts), not random trivia

Bad items come from:

  • Agenda slides and “questions?” closing slides
  • Screenshots of tables you cannot read after OCR
  • Anything not on the exam topic list

Always prune.

Worked example: three slides → three prompts

Paraphrased corporate-finance deck:

Slide 12: WACC is the weighted average cost of capital. Weights use target capital structure when available. Slide 13: Cost of equity via CAPM: r = r_f + β(r_m − r_f). Slide 14: After-tax cost of debt: r_d(1 − T_c).

Closed-book prompts:

  • 1. What does WACC stand for, and which weights do you prefer when available?
  • 2. Write the CAPM cost-of-equity formula from this lecture.
  • 3. How do you adjust the cost of debt for tax on this slide?

Cover the deck. Answer. Mark misses. Those three become tomorrow’s opener.

A 25-minute PPTX → quiz block

  • 1. Download the week’s PPTX from Moodle (2 min).
  • 2. Skim and delete title/agenda slides from your mental list (3 min).
  • 3. Generate or write 8–12 questions from the remaining content (10 min).
  • 4. Closed-book pass; list misses (10 min).

Attach the same file to a dated exam object when the date is known.

Where ScienceIQ fits (and how we differ)

As of October 2026, students often search for ways to turn a deck into Quizlet-style cards. Competitor blog content we reviewed leans flashcards more than closed-book quizzes from the same PPTX. ScienceIQ’s loop is upload → Quiz on that document (flashcards available on the same file).

ScienceIQ upload dialog with microeconomics-elasticity-en.pptx selectedMicroeconomics quiz in progress with instant Correct and Incorrect feedback
  • Upload PPTX (PDF also works if that is what Moodle exported).
  • Open Quiz on the document; prune anything that is not examinable.
  • Use Flashcards on the same upload for spaced follow-ups.
  • Optional: dated Exam with the deck attached.

Treat every auto-generated item as a draft. Delete and rewrite until it matches the syllabus.

Try it on the next Moodle download

One deck. Ten questions. Notes closed. Keep only what matches the syllabus.
